Gold is one of the rarest ores in Hytale, but there is a reliable way to obtain it. If you've dug a million ditches with no luck so far, it simply means you haven't been looking in the right place. To uncover gold ore deposits, it's far better to look up, not down.
Here's where to find gold ore and how to craft gold ingots in Hytale.
Though any zone in Hytale may contain gold ore, it only spawns in specific locations within those zones, and even then, it's incredibly rare.
Upon starting a new game in Hytale, the first place to look for gold is along the high slopes of the Howling Sands (Zone 2). The most common place to find gold here is on the plateaus, which appear as a broad yellow-grey ridge on the map. Gold ore isn't nearly as common as thorium, however.
By far the best place to find gold in Hytale is in the Whisperfront Frontiers (Zone 3). Find a large, snowy mountain, and you're almost guaranteed to see some gold deposits on the slopes. So, if you're looking for a place to farm gold in Hytale, there's currently no better option than the mountains. Don't forget to pick up some cobalt, too, while you're there.
As for the remaining gold spawn locations, you may find some in underground caves. Like copper and iron, it's even possible to find gold inside a cave in the Emerald Wilds (Zone 1), but you'd have to be very lucky. Regardless of zone, gold deposits tend to spawn near lava, which is found in the deepest parts of a cave system. While exploring the Devastated Lands (Zone 4), you may also find solid gold blocks inside the lava caves.
Like other types of ore, you must smelt your gold ore in a furnace to obtain gold ingots. A basic furnace, without additional upgrades, will suffice.
Unlike most ore types, you can't use your new Hytale gold to craft new tools, weapons, or armor. However, you can use it to craft a flame crystal staff at the arcanist's workbench (a ranged weapon that shoots fireballs) or several fancy chests. If you'd rather get strong armor, be sure to search for adamantite.
